Abstract

Catástilosis of an open modular structure is a project comprising three invention drawings. It investigates the transformation of a three-dimensional modular frame, observed from the same point of view and at the same distance, as a prolonged and repeated interval of time passes. The project proposal employs drawing as a tool for exploring the territory of architecture, encompassing both the imaginary and the fantastic. The series of three simulations shows how, within this temporal space, the nature of the structure loses its original function as a tower-observatory. However, its transfiguration in the form of a ruin gives the fragments of which it was composed multiple and diverse uses. The catàstilosis of the structure represents a destructive action, but this also creates a new equilibrium for the entire system. The recomposed fragments are given a new life beyond what they were originally intended for.
